Today is Gun Day on Shorts & Pants, apparently. And when I think of guns only one thing comes to mind — Don’s Guns and Galleries of Indianapolis.
If you’ve ever lived in Indiana — and let’s face it, who hasn’t — then you’ve seen Don Davis’s TV commercials, which invariably end with Don Davis himself intoning “I don’t wanna make any money, folks…I just love to sell guns.” Warms my heart just thinkin’ about it.
Well, back in 2004 Don Davis moved into a new home in suburban Indianapolis. And as soon as he moved in Davis plopped a big ol’ rock in his front yard. “Inscribed in the rock is an eagle, the U.S. flag and the Second Amendment. One of Davis’ notable sayings also is inscribed: “It’s better to own a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not own it.”"
Well ain’t that the truth? It’s also better to own a gun in the commission of a crime, in case someone shoots at you when you’re taking their stuff. And it turns out that quite a few people have used Don’s guns to commit crimes. In the years 1996-2000, guns bought at Don’s Guns and Galleries were used in the commission of 2294 crimes.
I would bring you more and more recent data on how Don’s Guns and Galleries’ guns were used in the commission of crimes, but one of our favorite House reps, Todd Tiahrt (R-KS4), a C Street clown, gun nut and friend of criminals, doesn’t want people to know this information. His Tiahrt Amendments “are provisions attached to federal spending bills that make it harder for law enforcement officers to aggressively pursue criminals who buy and sell illegal guns.”
The amendments have “restricted states, cities and police from accessing and using gun-tracing data to track down illegal gun traffickers.”
This means that in the most recent ATF annual reports, on traces of guns used to commit crimes, the data offered is of only a general nature, by locality, rather than broken down by gun dealers. Todd Tiahrt sure did a solid for gun dealers. To be fair, Shorts and Pants heard on the grapevine that Tiahrt washes his hands with the blood of gun crime victims every night before praying to God and eating supper, so it all makes a certain kind of sense, depending on how you look at it.
But we’re not here to talk bad about one of our favorite members of Congress, or even about Don’s Guns and Galleries. Today we celebrate guns, and gossip. And the fact that Don’s Guns and Galleries will sell you an Uzi 9mm Select Fire Sub Machine Gun with Silencer, just in case you don’t want to disturb the neighbors when you’re blowing them away with a hail of bullets.
Indianapolis is just a few hours away from me. This will make Christmas shopping so much easier!

I”m on a few Tea Party google groups, and the wingnut theory of the week seems to be that Congress is, IN SECRET, passing a law that makes each citizen state on their 1040 tax form all the guns they own, and then lobbies a $50 tax on each one. And I quote “they are voting on this but it won’t be made PUBLIC until 30 days after the bill passes”. SB2009 is the bill.
