The Daily Waste

Buried at the end of this article on Tina Brown and the shuttering of Portfolio is an interesting little tidbit:

The closure no doubt has Brown fretting over the $18 million her upstart Web venture the Daily Beast will cost Barry Diller’s IAC through fall 2011.

What the fuck? “The Daily Beast” cost $18 million? How? Why? For what purpose? This is worse than swine flu and the Great Depression and American cars combined, because who would spend $18—never mind $18 million—on a website that pays Meghan McCain to write for it?

I suspect that somewhere in the shadows is a person smiling knowingly who charged the naive & retarded Tina Brown $15 million to start up The Daily Beast & pocketed the $14,998,000 that was left over.
