The problem with a virus that traverses species (swine, bird) to humans and then mutates to be contracted human-to-human, is that we (us people) have no immunity built up to resist. Thus, it is actually healthier adults who succumb, because their stronger immune systems go berserk, and overfight the virus, causing the lungs to flood with fluid and basically suffocate them.

It hardly matters though, as abrupt climate change, ecosystem collapse, crop failure, violent weather, and rapidly accelerating mass extinction are going to exterminate everything on earth, forever, anyway, soon. Also.
