Probably the Most Insane Glenn Beck Video Ever

What the hell is going on here? It’s Glenn Beck, and he’s admitting he was wrong! It wasn’t Socialism we were heading towards, it’s actually FASCISM. Yes, that’s right, WE ARE JUST LIKE NAZI GERMANY.

Beck even shows Nazi film and a very large, incredibly creepy video of Ben Bernanke being bored at a Senate hearing of some kind in the background of his delirious rant. It really is the most insane thing we have seen in quite a while, and therefore, INCREDIBLE. What is with this Glenn Beck guy, anyway?

UPDATE: An insane rant about the very same subject!

It’s not Rahm I worry about

While I haven’t elevated Naomi to the status of a personal hero, I did blog about her 10 point definition of fascism back in Oct 2007 (http://laketahoeconditions.com/lake-tahoe-blog.htm). Those 10 points are:

1. Invoking an external and internal threat
2. Establishing secret prisons
3. Developing a paramilitary force
4. Surveillance of ordinary citizens
5. Infiltrating citizens’ groups
6. Arbitrarily detaining and releasing citizens
7. Targeting key individuals
8. Restricting the press
9. Casting criticism as “espionage” and dissent as “treason”
10. Subverting the rule of law

During Bush/Cheney I could easily check off all 10 points. After 60 days of Obama I think it is clear that I can safely uncheck about half of them. Our ship of state is too large to turn on a dime and I agree that elements of fascism still persist in our society.

What pains me is that so many, notably those on the right, who cannot differentiate between fascism and socialism. That happy face is socialism. For Beck to join the party after it is clear that we have reversed some elements of fascism it typical of Fox noise. It is clear that Beck has ignored the winds of change and is attempting to conflate socialism with fascism.

Rather than worry about Rahm, who I hear very little from in the news media, I worry about Timothy Geithner. While it is hard to associate the contribution of the corporate state in Naomi’s 10 points, it is clear that the corporate state exists and that a country ruled by corporate interests is indeed fascist.

But to characterize Obama as an unwitting pawn who doesn’t understand fascism is someplace I can’t get to from here. If we really wanted to put a stake in the heart of the evolving fascism we face, then Geithner should immediately address the $64 trillion of Credit Default Swaps.

Every CDS that was wagered on securities not directly held by the buyer (naked) should be declared null and void. What Geithner has done has allowed companies like AIG to pay off these bets with tax payer money. (see http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/3/27/713698/-The-Real-Crime-in-th…)

So it is ironic that socialism, that happy face, is serving to benefit fascism.

Pragmatically, it is unclear what would happen if Geithner betrayed his Wall Street heritage and insisted on striking at the heart fascism; those little reported 10s of trillions of dollars of CDSs. So rather than claim that Obama does not understand fascism, I would rather give him the benefit of the doubt. Obama is doing what he can to turn our ship. It took decades to get here. It will indeed take longer than 60 days to completely reverse fascism as we understand it.
